Welcome to britishshorthairask.com , Let’s go
Our Beginning: One Cat, One Question, and a Notebook
Every meaningful project starts with curiosity.
For BritishShorthairAsk.com, that spark came in 2020 when our founder Regina Klein, then a behaviour consultant and writer in London, realised that almost every cat website treated all breeds the same.
Advice for Siamese cats sat beside tips for Persians; none addressed the calm, reserved temperament of the British Shorthair.
So Regina began collecting notes — feeding habits, coat-care routines, temperament quirks — first for her own cat Oliver, then for clients, and finally for strangers online.
What started as a private research folder soon became a mission to give the British Shorthair breed the dedicated platform it deserved.

Our Mission
To educate, empower, and connect British Shorthair owners through evidence-based guidance and heartfelt storytelling.
We believe that accurate information, delivered with empathy, builds stronger bonds between humans and cats — and ultimately leads to happier, healthier felines.
Our Vision
We envision a world where:
-
Every British Shorthair lives in a home that understands its needs.
-
Owners can access trustworthy, science-backed information without confusion or fear.
-
Ethical breeding and rescue coexist to preserve welfare and genetic health.
-
Education replaces myth, and compassion replaces convenience.
Who We Are
At our heart, we are a small team of cat enthusiasts, researchers, and writers led by Regina Klein, a zoology graduate, feline-behaviour specialist, and lifelong British Shorthair guardian.
Our contributors include:
-
Veterinary students from the Royal Veterinary College, offering academic fact-checks.
-
Certified groomers who test products in real homes.
-
Volunteers from shelters who contribute real-world adoption insights.
Our Editorial Philosophy: Clarity, Compassion, Credibility
Information online can overwhelm. Our editorial approach simplifies without dumbing down. Every post is written to achieve three outcomes:
-
Inform – using peer-reviewed research, veterinary advice, and professional observation.
-
Empathize – acknowledging the emotional side of pet ownership.
-
Inspire – encouraging responsible, joyful relationships with cats.
Editorial & Fact-Checking Policy

We rely on veterinary textbooks, academic journals (Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery, Applied Animal Behaviour Science), and official breed associations. -

Affiliate relationships and sponsorships are disclosed at the beginning or end of articles. -
Continuous Updates.

Why British Shorthairs Deserve Their Own Platform
The British Shorthair is often described as “the gentleman of the cat world.”
They’re calm, loyal, and visually striking — but their quiet nature makes them misunderstood.
Many owners mistake independence for indifference or misread subtle stress cues.
By dedicating an entire website to this breed, we can explore every nuance — from diet formulas supporting bone density to socialization techniques for low-energy cats. Depth replaces generalisation; understanding replaces guesswork.
Our Founder’s Philosophy
Regina’s approach blends science with storytelling. She believes:
“Data explains behaviour; empathy transforms it.”
Her leadership keeps the site’s tone warm but precise — never sensational, always sincere.
She insists that no content be published without verifiable evidence or first-hand observation. This insistence has earned the site recognition across cat-care communities as a model of balanced, ethical pet journalism.

| Empathy | We write with respect for cats and owners, acknowledging real challenges. |

Community & Outreach
Beyond publishing, we act.
Our team volunteers in shelters, funds micro-grants for low-income adopters, and supports neuter-and-return programs across the UK.
Through the British Shorthair Circle Facebook group, we host Q&A sessions and free webinars featuring veterinarians and trainers.
Our annual online event, Shorthair Summit, connects breeders, adopters, and rescue coordinators to share data and compassion.
Each small action adds up to a measurable difference in feline welfare.
Our Research & Data Projects
We believe practical data empowers better care.
Between 2021 and 2024 we collected owner-submitted surveys covering:
-
Common allergies and food sensitivities
-
Preferred litter materials
-
Activity levels versus apartment size
-
Emotional indicators related to grooming frequency
Findings are anonymised and shared publicly to benefit the wider community — an example of citizen science improving everyday pet life.
Transparency in Partnerships
Running a website requires resources, but our funding model protects independence.
-
Display advertising is vetted to exclude low-quality or unethical brands.
-
Product reviews remain unsponsored unless clearly marked.
-
Donations via Buy Me a Coffee help cover hosting and research materials.
Our readers know that honesty comes before revenue — always.
Our Global Audience
Visitors hail from the UK, United States, Canada, Germany, Australia, and several Asian countries where British Shorthairs are gaining popularity.
We receive daily emails sharing success stories: overweight cats transformed by new diets, shy rescues gaining confidence, senior cats enjoying extended lives through proper enrichment.
These testimonies remind us why precision and compassion matter.
Ethical Breeding & Adoption Advocacy
We take a clear stance against mass breeding and kitten mills.
Our guides emphasise working with registered breeders who:
-
Conduct genetic health screenings
-
Prioritise welfare over appearance
-
Provide lifetime return policies for re-homing
Simultaneously, we highlight adoption opportunities through shelters and rescue networks.
Every cat deserves dignity, regardless of pedigree.

A Word from Regina Klein
“When I began this site, I hoped to answer a few questions.
Today, the questions come from thousands of voices across continents — and each one reminds me why this matters.
British Shorthairs may be quiet, but their presence speaks volumes.
My mission is to make sure the world learns to listen.”
Her words capture our essence: knowledge anchored in empathy.
